What seems to be the world’s oldest submerged metropolis has just been discovered in southern Greece. It is supposed to be the location for the ancient Greek epic poem “Iliad” since it is so old.
It is said to date back to 2,800 BC, which is when the submerged city was found by the study team.
The city, which has a diameter of 9 acres, is quite old, and it was said to be a center of trade between the Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations in ancient times.
However, about 1,000 BC, a series of earthquakes completely demolished it to the core, causing it to be swallowed up by the Earth. The earthquakes were so strong that they completely changed the terrain.
Because fifteen of the structures here clearly revealed signs of being that ancient to begin with, the team was able to prove that it is over 5,000 years old.
The trip was organized by John Henderson on behalf of the University of Nottingham, and as a result of his efforts, we now have a virtual replica of the city in its heyday that we may see.
