When a stray mama dog was hit by a car, she immediately lost her life. We are so thankful she did not suffer. However, she left behind three puppies that desperately needed care. One puppy was so closely bonded to his mom– and this story focuses on him. And his perseverance.

The puppy, too young and too attached to his mother to understand what happened, clung to his mom even though she had already passed away. By the time the little family was found, the one puppy continued to nestle into Mama, trying to wake her up. He had no intention of leaving the mother he loved so much.
When the animal rescuers tried to get the puppy away from his mother, he cried over and over again. The kind humans understood that they had to handle this special puppy with care. They decided to give the mama dog a beautiful funeral. They laid her down and covered her with a blanket and flower petals. When it was time for her body to be cremated, they allowed the puppy to say one last goodbye.
The pup, now loved dearly by his rescuers, watched as mom left this world. His new human friends did their best to explain to him that Mama was going to a special place and they would be reunited one day in the future. It would take time, but the puppy would emotionally heal.
The vet and his team concentrated on getting all three puppies as healthy as possible. They needed to be vaccinated and treated for fleas and parasites. Once they got a clean bill of health, all the pups went to a nearby shelter.
The rescuers are very devoted to all three little ones but they are certainly focused on the one pup and his emotional well-being. He will need constant comfort during this time. As soon as they are old enough, they will be available for adoption. Thankfully there are families interested in adopting all three dogs.
