Justin Steinmetz was driving to work on the road he used to travel every morning in Berks County, Pennsylvania; That road crossed a residential neighborhood through which the man liked to pass, because in almost all the gardens of the houses there were puppies playing and he was glad to see them.
FLAMES ON THE HORIZON.
However, on the morning of April 29, 2022, his morning traffic came out very differently than usual. When he was walking through the neighborhood he saw that the roof of one of the houses was on fire, he looked closely and through the windows he could also see fire inside the house.
He immediately stopped his car and ran towards the house, while yelling at the neighbors to alert them and ask them to call 911. In his mind there was only one phrase that repeated itself over and over again: “Do not let the dogs be in the house.” the house”, “that the dogs are not in the house”…
Arriving at the front of the house, Justin, along with other neighbors who had already joined him, banged open the front door and saw a puppy a few meters from the entrance, near the stairs, using all his strength. Courage and against their own self-preservation, they entered the building and took it out.
THE RESCUE WAS JUST BEGINNING.
As Justin began to feel relieved, his fears materialized like in a nightmare, as the barking of another puppy came like bullets towards his ears. There was another puppy in the house, he was trapped and the fire devoured everything quickly and incessantly.
Justin located the barking, it was coming from the second floor, he circled the house to make eye contact with the second puppy and see what he could do with it. It turns out that the little furry had not reached the first floor, like his little brother, and had been trapped in one of the rooms on the second floor, near a window barking, asking for help.
The man realized that the only option for the puppy to get out of the burning house was through the window, there was no other way out. On the other hand, if they waited for the firemen to arrive and take it out, it might be too late because the fire would not stop advancing and it could already be seen inside the room where the little animal was.
He and several neighbors stood just below the window and began to encourage the puppy to jump out of it, the furry one did not want to, it scared him but anxiously he looked back and saw the flames trying to reach his little body, trying to gain momentum worse right on the edge he stopped for fear of falling and hurting himself.
AN ENDING, ALMOST HAPPY
Finally seeing so many people supporting him and above all already feeling the incessant pressure of the flames, he jumped. He landed well, he managed to touch the ground with his trunk, but it was just a slight bounce. He immediately began to jump and wag his tail around his neighbors, without a doubt, a sign of gratitude, because without them he would not have had the courage to jump and the consequences would have been disastrous.
Justin realized that the puppy’s back was set on fire, clearly it was not a serious injury, just a few singed hairs attested to how close the little animal had been to having been a terrible victim of the fire.
Unfortunately, the authorities confirmed that the puppies were not the only ones in the house at the time of the fire, there were also two kittens, one was found in the basement of the house hiding out of fear and the other has not yet appeared, only We pray with all our strength that he is well.
We do not know the reasons for the fire, but we are grateful that Justin and the neighbors have helped the two puppies, without them this story would have an ending that we could not even dare to tell, because sadness would prevent us from doing so. Thanks heroes!
